Project Details
In collaboration with Oaklins Netherlands, I worked on the design and formatting of their Listed & Large Corporates Newsletter – November 2024 Edition. This flagship publication covers fairness opinions, equity capital markets trends, M&A activity, and debt updates across Europe.
My role involved transforming complex financial data into a clean, engaging, and highly readable newsletter distributed to Oaklins' international client base, including institutional investors, board members, and corporate finance professionals.
The newsletter needed to:
- Reflect Oaklins’ authoritative tone and brand identity
- Present technical content (e.g., IPO performance, fairness opinions, leveraged finance) with clarity
- Be optimized for digital distribution (PDF/email/web)
Design Approach
My design approach was structured around clarity, credibility, and consistency:
- Visual Hierarchy: I used structured typography and spacing to guide readers through sections like “Fairness Opinions: The Bright, Dark, and Messy” and “Equity Capital Markets Update.”
- Data Simplification: Designed infographics and charts to visualize macroeconomic trends, M&A breakdowns, and IPO performance across industries and geographies.
- Brand Fidelity: Followed Oaklins’ visual language while introducing modern layout enhancements for better scanability and flow.
- Print + Digital Ready: Ensured the newsletter was visually polished across desktop and tablet formats while remaining lightweight for email distribution.
- Compliance + Accessibility: Paid special attention to disclosure placement, color contrast, and screen-friendly formatting.
What We Learned
This project highlighted the power of good design in financial communications:
- Complex data can become accessible when structured thoughtfully, especially for time-constrained executives.
- Visual consistency builds trust, especially when communicating high-stakes content like fairness opinions or capital markets forecasts.
- Collaborating closely with analysts during content production enhances both design and message accuracy.
- Financial newsletters are not static PDFs—they’re brand tools. A well-designed issue can drive engagement, reinforce expertise, and extend brand value far beyond a one-time read.
